Seven traffic offenders detained in police operation

KOTA KINABALU: Police detained seven traffic offenders and t wo men for possessing weapons during Op Samseng Jalanan here over the weekend.

City police chief ACP M Chandra said the police had also issued 145 summonses to motorists for various road offences.

Chandra said road block was set up along Jalan Coastal from 2am to 4am on Sunday, while Op Samseng Jalanan was conducted in and around the city from 11.30pm on Saturday to 5am on Sunday.

He said the police tested 10 motorists for alcoholic level during the road block. Three were brought to the police headquarte­rs for further investigat­ion.

“All three motorists were found to have exceeded the legal limit of alcohol and thus will face investigat­ion under Section 45A of the Road Transport Act 1987,” he added.

He said the police also arrested a 21-year-old man under Section 108 of the Road Transport Act for having a false licence plate on his motorcycle.

Chandra said a 21-year-old man and two 25-year-old men were nabbed under Section 42 of the Act for reckless and dangerous driving. Their motorcycle­s were subsequent­ly detained.

“The police also arrested two men aged 18 and 23 respective­ly under Section 148 of the Penal Code for possessing weapons.”

Chandra said 27 automobile­s were inspected during the operation, including six cars, four four-wheel drive vehicles and 17 motorcycle­s. Thirteen motorcycle­s were held at traffic police station for various offences.

“A total of 30 people were also inspected, who consisted of 25 men and five women,” he said.
