Pakatan Rakyat Sabah more united after Anwar jailed – Lajim

- By Nancy Lai

KOTA KINABALU: Pakatan Rakyat Sabah’s spirit is still burning strong even though its leader, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, lost his case and was sentenced to jail last week.

According to Sabah opposition leader Datuk Seri Lajim Ukin, Pakatan Rakyat Sabah will continue with Anwar’s work so that his vision and mission for a better Malaysia will be realized.

Speaking at a joint press conference with DAP Sabah and PAS Sabah yesterday, Lajim who is also PKR Sabah chief, said that Anwar’s imprisonment had in fact made the opposition stronger and more united.

“We stand solidly behind Anwar and our fighting spirit has been rejuvenated by what happened to him. Yes, they may have imprisoned Datuk Seri Anwar but there are thousands who share his struggle out there just waiting to be given an opportunity.

“They will rise and continue to champion the people’s rights,” he said, adding that the sentiment of the people, especially the grassroots, was anger over the Federal Court’s decision because they felt that the decision was politically motivated.

Lajim also pointed out that Anwar sacrificed his freedom for 28 million Malaysians as he wanted to ensure that the Malaysia they live in is a better one.

“Anwar could have stayed away from the country but instead he chose to come back because he knows he is not wrong,” Lajim stressed.

DAP Sabah chief Jimmy Wong said Anwar sacrificed his freedom for the sake of freeing Malaysians.

“We are standing solidly behind Anwar and his struggles. We also hope that he is being treated well in prison,” he said.

PAS Sabah secretary general Awang Liman Hj Ikin pointed out that Anwar has their support because he showed them that he is willing to sacrif ice for Malaysians and came back to the country even though he knows that he may have to give up his freedom.

“PAS lost two great leaders last week, one who we will never see again… so we will put our differences aside and focus on championing for Anwar’s freedom,” he said.

Meanwhile, Lajim disclosed that PKR Sabah is organizing a ‘March to Freedom’ gathering here in the state capital on February 27.
