Wanita Umno’s strategies for Permatang Pauh by-election
BEAUFORT: Wanita Umno is ready to mobilize its machinery to help the Barisan Nasional (BN) wrest the Permatang Pauh seat from the opposition in the expected by-election following the disqualification of incumbent PKR de facto leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
Its vice head, Datuk Hajjah Azizah Mohd Dun, said yesterday that the movement had developed some special strategies as the seat is the stronghold of the opposition.
She said Wanita Umno is only waiting for an official statement regarding the status of the seat following the recent conviction of Anwar on a charge of sodomising his former aide Mohd Saiful Bukhari Azlan in 2008 by the Federal Court.
The apex court upheld a fiveyear jail sentence meted out by the Court of Appeal on Anwar after dismissing the opposition leader’s final appeal.
“Wanita Umno has made preparations for quite a while now and we are already beginning to swing into action and only waiting for the directive to face the Permatang Pauh by-election,” she said after launching the Chinese New Year 2015 carnival and lantern festival here.
“In mobilising Wanita Umno, we are focusing on increasing the people’s trust and confidence towards Umno,” she said, when asked to comment on Wanita Umno’s preparation to face the Permatang Pauh by-election.
