Media practitioners play important role – assemblyman
LAHAD DATU: Media practitioners play an important role in conveying information to ensure the government’s efforts in developing the district could be achieved.
Lahad Datu assemblyman Datuk Mohd Yusof Apdal said media practitioners also serve as a platform where the people could obtain the latest information about the security situation here.
“The media practitioners’ role means a lot to the people as without them the people will not know the latest development and security situation.
“Close cooperation with media practitioners is important as they serve as facilitators in spreading the development agenda so that it will be understood by the people,” he said at a luncheon with the media in conjunction with the Chinese New Year celebration.
According to Yusof, without the media practitioners’ reports, the burden of community leaders will be heavier as they need to itemize every administration detail by providing explanation in traditional ways.
Yusof also hoped the close cooperation with the media will continue in the future.
On another issue, he said that the illegal immigrant placement restructuring programme implemented by the Eastern Sabah Security Command (ESSCom) in the district should be done through an orderly approach that will not burden the people.
“The local authorities and ESSCom have implemented the effort to curb illegal immigrants and it is hoped that the placement of local people will be implemented in an orderly manner in the future.
“The plans to conduct a census of illegal immigrants should also consider upgrading the water village settlement to create a more orderly settlement that is safe and manageable,” he said.
Yusof hoped the proposal will become the best approach for the people and the government is ready to provide allocation to ensure the success of programmes that will enrich the people.
Also present were ESSCom commander DCP Datuk Abdul Rashid Harun, Barisan Nasional component party leaders and Silam Umno Division committee members.
