KUALALUMPUR: Smart devices are becoming central to people’s lives and there is now greater demand by end-users in terms of accessing their desktops in various ways and in the most efficient manner possible.

Multinational software company, Citrix Systems (Citrix), observed that as an employee’s daily jobs have now expanded beyond just email to include Windows, on-premise, web and native mobile apps, and hence, there comes a need for an alternative way to access desktops without forgoing the mobility factor.

Desktop management is a fundamental service for IT organisations and plays a critical role in maintaining employees’ productivity.

However, managing traditional desktops comes with considerable capital and operating expenses, such as investing in hardware, regular software updates, patches and ongoing maintenance.

“DaaS is an alternative to a virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI), providing the benefits of virtual desktops, without the need for localised hardware deployment.

“By making desktops available through browser apps, as well as smartphone and tablet apps, endusers enjoy greater flexibility in how they work,” he added.

Through the adoption of DaaS, Citrix pointed out that organisations will also have the ability to empower themselves with a sim- ple, self-service web portal for dayto-day tasks, such as adding new users and on-demand provisioning of resources.

“This allows them to have a comprehensive view of the hosted mobile workspace environment – track usage and available services, monitor the health of systems and send out notifications,” it commented.

Last year, Citrix collaborated with Google to securely deliver desktops, apps and IT services over any network and from any cloud.
