Police probe video threat
KUALA LUMPUR: Police are investigating a video threatening to attack Malaysian courthouses by a group claiming to be Islamic State (IS) members.
Inspector-general of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar said the owner of the YouTube account, ‘Isis Malaysia 69’, was being sought by the police to assist in investigations over inciting people to hold protests against the judiciary of this country.
Khalid said police would investigate the group involved with the video.
“Those who try to undermine peace and order will pay the price,” he told Bernama yesterday adding that so far, no arrests have been made on the case.
In the one-minute video, the four individuals in the video hid behind black garbs with their faces covered to avoid being identified.
Another person was also seen brandishing a Molotov cocktail with petrol bombs placed on the table in front of them and a Malaysian f lag hung in the background.
The group also used a picture of actress Nora Danish in their video. Nora was quoted as saying that she was shocked to learn that she “is being used.”
In the video, they warned they would hold protests against the judicial system by setting off firecrackers on February 18 at 11.30pm.
“To whichever party that has been in power for too long, we the Malaysian youth, in 2015, announce the outcome of trickery and manipulation in democracy,” said the man, who spoke in Malay.
“We will set off ‘ mercun’ (firecrackers) i n courts as a symbol of the destruction of one of the tools used in the democratic system. We have just started and we will go even further. The more damaged the democracy that you destroy, the more we will fight,” he added.
The man, however, did not specify what had triggered their plan to set off explosives at the Malaysian courts.
Meanwhile, Kuala Lumpur CID chief SAC Zainuddin Ahmad said the account owner was believed to have uploaded the video on social media on Sunday with the aim of inciting people to participate in their struggle.
The clip went viral a week after Opposition Leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim was found guilty of sodomising his former aide and sentenced to five years in jail by the Federal Court.
On social media, Malaysians dismissed the video threat as a hoax, noting the face of the Malaysian actress on the back of the masked man’s script.
