Umno Youth targeting 120,000 new members this year

-

KOTA KINABALU: Umno Youth will be organizing various activities throughout the nation in order to achieve its target to register 120,000 new members this year.

Its chief, Datuk Khairy Jamaluddin, said the new Umno Youth members will also be encouraged to register as voters with the Election Commission once reaching the age of 21.

“The number of 120,000 is huge. This is the main challenge for this target. That is why we need full collaboration from all divisions and levels to ensure we reach the target,” he said to reporters in a press conference after chairing a meeting with Umno Youth exco members at Le Meridien here yesterday.

The meeting was in conjunction with the three-day National Level Umno Youth Retreat in the state, which will be concluded today.

He added the retreat had been discussing about internal strategy to face the next general election, and also how to attract youngsters to join as activists and active Umno members.

Asked about new Umno Youth programmes, Khairy said thay are currently focusing on the Umno Youth’s Young Professionals, a nationwide programme where they will train young professionals in various skills, including communication, presentation and speaking skills.

“This programme has been attracting many young professionals because it was done for free for any potential youths without looking at their background or political experience,” he said.

Khairy also said Umno Youth will be having Umno Sports by the end of March which will be participated by all 191 divisions nationwide as a platform to strengthen unity among members.
