Probe on radio station in hudud criticism video
HULU TERENGGANU: The online business radio station, BFM which had allegedly uploaded a video clip criticising the implementation of hudud in Kelantan would be investigated.
Communications and Multimedia Deputy Minister Datuk Jailani Johari said the ministry would leave it to the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) and Royal Malaysian Police to conduct the investigations.
"Radio stations that have been given the licence to operate must follow guidelines including discussion ethics.
"Although BFM operates online, we must ensure that every information shared to the masses are verified and correct," he told reporters after launching a programme, 'Mengubah Destini Anak Bangsa' here yesterday.
The programme for school-leavers in the parliamentary constituency of Hulu Terengganu was attended by more than 200 former students.
Jailani who is also Hulu Terengganu Member of Parliament, acknowledged that the radio station had apologised for the alleged incident and hoped others would learn from it.
He advised radio and television stations to exercise tact when presenting their views so as not to confuse the public.
"We do not want personal views that might confuse the people, and the Communications and Multimedia Act has provisions to act against individuals," he said.
Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar said the investigation involved the host of the business radio station as well as the individual who made the threat against the host concerned.
This was confirmed by Khalid through his official Twitter website yesterday.
"In the BFM, @PDRM case, police will investigate both parties, that is, the BFM broadcaster and the one threatening the broadcaster. The broadcaster's script writer would also be called up," he said.
