Batu Sapi village a dengue hotspot
SANDAKAN: Kampung Lupak Meluas Darat near Batu Sapi is a dengue hotspot in Sandakan and the people here should give full cooperation to the health officers in carrying out their duties, said Health Department director Dr Christina Rundi.
The health officers are here to ensure that there are no potential Aedes mosquito breeding grounds in the area in order to combat dengue fever, Christina said.
“The people here should not only give their full cooperation to the health officers, but also play their roles in preventing dengue fever.
“I hope that the people can practise taking at least 10 minutes to search and destroy potential mosquito breeding grounds in and around their homes,” she explained.
Christina said this when officially opening the Klinik 1Malaysia in Karamunting here, which was graced by Karamunting assemblyman Charles O Pang Su Pin.
According to Christina, the Klinik 1Malaysia in Karamunting commenced its operation on December 31 last year and has been operating for almost three months since, receiving a total of 1,308 patients in January and 1,596 patients in February.
“This means that this clinic receives an average of 50 patients a day. This shows the clinic at a strategic location is utilised by the local people.
“This clinic is serving its purpose to provide convenient health care services to the people in Karamunting,” she said.
Klinik 1Malaysia Karamunting has two assistant medical officers, two trained nurses, and two assistant health treatment officers. Residents of Karamunting can seek medical attention at the cost of RM1 for Malaysian citizens and acquire medicine supplies from the clinic, which is open from 9am to 9pm.
Also present at the launching ceremony were the deputy director of the Health Department, Dr Jamail Muhi and Sandakan district health officer Dr Johari Awang Besar.
