KOTA KINABALU: Potential senior teachers in Sabah have been urged to apply for the National Professional Qualification for Educational Leaders (NPQEL) course to allow t hem to be promoted as principal or head teacher.

Deputy Education Minister Datuk Mary Yap made this call yesterday when officiating the ground breaking of the fast-track mode Institut Aminuddin Baki (IAB) cabin office in Tebobon, Inanam.

“I have always believed that a great leader is the main factor of success for a school. That is why I am calling for potential senior teachers to register for the NPQEL course.

“If qualified teachers are interested to become principals and head teachers in the future, they must have NPQEL qualification. Otherwise, they will not accepted,” she said.

Yap said the setting up of the IAB Sabah Branch is good news for teachers from Sabah and Labuan because they no longer have to travel to the peninsula to attend the course.

IAB has two more branches in Sarawak and Kedah respectively.

During her speech, Yap also called on teachers from missionary schools and national-type schools to apply for the course.

District education directors must encourage potential senior teachers to make use of this opportunity, she stressed.
