Kampung Ketiau road in dire need of repair
PENAMPANG: Villagers at Kampung Ketiau, Inobong have voiced their strong complaint to the relevant authority for not maintaining and repairing the stretch of road from Sabah Electricity Sdn Bhd (SESB) substation at Kampung Inobong to Kampung Ketiau.
Bonne Venture, one of the villagers representing some 10 families living at Kampung Ketiau, said he had brought this matter to the attention of Village Security and Development Committee (JKKK) Kampung Putaton, Penampang and the state assemblyman of the constituency, as well as written to government departments such as the Public Works Department (PWD), Penampang District Office and the Ministry of Rural and Regional Development to request the road to be upgraded into a tarred road.
“Nothing has happened so far,” he pointed out.
Bonne said the road is now heavily damaged by rainwater especially during the monsoon season in the past few months as there was no proper drainage.
He said the road partly sealed by tar also leads to the Sabah Park at Crocker Range, Keningau.
“During heavy downpour, rainwater rushed down from the top, and this has been happening for years.
“The stretch of road sealed by tar is badly damaged in several areas.”
Bonne said he had been calling and complaining to the relevant authority to maintain and repair the road since 2004.
He said PWD had repaired the road several times but for the past year, the department has ceased to carry out maintenance and repair.
Bonne said the affected villagers hoped that immediate action would be taken to repair the damaged stretch of road as they had to bear higher rental and transportation fees due to the bad road condition.
“Some villagers who own smaller vehicles are finding it increasingly difficult to commute via the only road daily,” he lamented.
