Hudud in Kelantan should be implemented correctly – NGO

-

KUALA LUMPUR: The implementation of hudud laws in Kelantan should be conducted fairly and in the correct manner said Bumiputera rights group, Pemikir president Tan Sri Abdul Aziz Yassin.

He said as a Muslim, Islamic laws should be adhered to by Muslims and its implementation should be based on the syariah.

"Even though Pemikir does not oppose the implementation of the laws, its implementation should be studied and discussed thoroughly to avoid injustice in its implementation," he told reporters after chairing a Pemikir Supreme Council meeting, here yesterday.

He was commenting on the passing of the Syariah Criminal Code II 1993 (2015 Amendment) bill or better known as hudud laws which would only be applicable to Muslims when enforced later.

All 44 members of the assembly including 31 from PAS, 12 from Barisan Nasional and one from PKR supported the bill which was tabled by PAS state government under the leadership of Menteri Besar Datuk Ahmad Yakob.

In this regard, Abdul Aziz supported the advice of Umno Supreme Council member, Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob that MCA and Gerakan should not intervene in the affairs of Islamic religion.

"We never interfere in their religions... besides they also do not have much knowledge about Islamic laws," he said.

Gerakan on Wednesday filed an application for an injunction on the Syariah Criminal Code II 1993 (2015 Amendment) Enactment which was passed by the Kelantan state assembly on the grounds it was contrary to the Federal Constitution.

An MCA leader was reported as saying the party should sever ties with Umno for its support to the Kelantan state government to implement hudud in the state.

Abdul Aziz said hudud was among the matters discussed at the meeting apart from IS militant group and the 1Malaysia Development Bhd (IMDB).

Meanwhile in TAWAU, Kalabakan MP Datuk Abdul Ghapur Salleh said Syariah Criminal Code II 1993 (2015 Amendment) Enactment should be clarified and explained to non-Muslims so that no objections would arise.
