Local audition for entries to Miss Global International

-

KUCHING: There was an encouraging turnout for the second round of auditions for the Miss Global International Sarawak at CityOne Mall yesterday.

The Top 20 will vie for the top honours and right to represent Sarawak at the finals to be held at Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) on May 21.

Event organiser Nickson Simbor said that this is the first time an audition for this beauty pageant was held for Sarawakians.

“Miss International Global is the third largest beauty pageant after Miss World and Miss Universe and from the number of people we had today, the response is very optimistic,” he told the sunday post yesterday.

“It’s an honour to do our very own selection as Sarawak has so many ethnic beauties left undiscovered over the years. This is our chance and time to show our unqiue beauty to the country and the world,” he added.

Simbor said that in many previous international beauty pageants, most of contestants from Sarawak had to travel for auditioning in Kuala Lumpur.

“We did choose eight girls last week from 27 participants and today (yesterday) we had 70 participants and we just need another 12 from this pool to be selected for the Top 20. We already have a huge following on our Facebook now with 1,000 fans,” he added.

Simbor said the event in BCCK will be crucial for the girls to be groomed before they enter the final in May and starting this Monday, there will be a catwalk and fashion show where the girls will be using Metrojaya Collections.

On April 25, these girls will deck out in traditional costumes to enhance their ethnic beauty and see how they cope with their own culture and backgrounds.

Simbor said the 2014 Miss Global International Malaysia Rubini Sambanthan will be given the honour to crown the winning beauty from Sarawak in May.

She will be assisted by two Sarawak beauty pageant queens Miss Intercontinental Nicole Landon and Miss World University Noami Sim.

The t heme for this year’s pageant is “Unity and Culture”.

Simbor hoped Sarawak will spring a surprise at the national level and that this local audition will be an annual event so “our beautiful girls have the same opportunity with the rest in Malaysia”.
