PDRM frustrate Sabah futsal squad

-

KOTA KINABALU: Sabah women's squad were left frustrated after going down 1-2 to PDRM in the National Futsal League game at KSL Gombak yesterday.

The narrow defeat saw Sabah's run of four wins coming to an end and surrenderingtheir top three placing.

Deidre Rofinus scored the only goal for Sabah in the first half that ended 1-1, with PDRM scoring the winner in the second period.

Head coach Mohd Asyraaf Fong Abdullah said it was unfortunate for Sabah to lose, although he admitted the squad had been wasteful in front of the goal too.

Apart from that, Sabah seemed to be affected by a long delay after the referee stopped the game midway due to the slippery surface following heavy rain.

"My worst fear came true when we failed to convert the many chances created.

"The match wasalso delayed forquite some time and when play resumed, the momentum of the team was affected.

"PDRM went onthe defensive and the smaller court at KSL Gombak compared to Panasonic Court in Shah Alam suits their game plan well.

"We will try to regroup and focus on the Sarawak (DBKU) game. We will try our best," said Asyraaf when contacted yesterday.

The defeat was Sabah third of the campaign having also lost to the current top two teams Felda United 0-2 and Selangor 1-3 in the opening week of the league.

Sabah bounced back in the next two weekends with wins over reigning champions Selangor MPSJ 1-0, Perak 2-0, the Armed Forces 8-0 and Kuala Lumpur 3-1.

The league is into its fourth week with Sabah up against basement side Sarawak DBKU today.
