Association releases turtle hatchlings in Kuala Penyu
KOTA KINABALU: The Sabah Tourist Guides Association (STGA) has embarked on its first sustainable eco tourism project at Tempurong, Kuala Penyu.
Its president, Grace Leong, said the project which involved the release of turtle hatchlings back to the sea, was launched on April 28 at Tempurong Golden Beach Resort.
The project was in collaboration with the resort and with the support of the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Environment, District Office of Kuala Penyu and Sabah Wildlife Department, she said.
“The turtles were released by Edmund Teo, the District Officer of Kuala Penyu,” she said, adding that a plan with sustainable eco tourism principles was now under process to include protection and conservation of the turtles in the area.
The plan, she added, would involve the local communities.
