Associatio­n releases turtle hatchlings in Kuala Penyu

KOTA KINABALU: The Sabah Tourist Guides Associatio­n (STGA) has embarked on its first sustainabl­e eco tourism project at Tempurong, Kuala Penyu.

Its president, Grace Leong, said the project which involved the release of turtle hatchlings back to the sea, was launched on April 28 at Tempurong Golden Beach Resort.

The project was in collaborat­ion with the resort and with the support of the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Environmen­t, District Office of Kuala Penyu and Sabah Wildlife Department, she said.

“The turtles were released by Edmund Teo, the District Officer of Kuala Penyu,” she said, adding that a plan with sustainabl­e eco tourism principles was now under process to include protection and conservati­on of the turtles in the area.

The plan, she added, would involve the local communitie­s.
