Cop says received three grenade launchers
KOTA KINABALU: A senior police officer testified in the High Court here yesterday that three grenade launchers that he received at a skirmish site were still usable.
Deputy commander of the Battalion 17 in Lahad Datu, DSP Syed Ahmad Tajuddin Syed Mohamed told Justice Stephen Chung that the grenade launchers, which he received from Superintendent Mancha Anak Ata, one of the team leaders from the VAT 69 commando, were still attached with their cliffs.
“For precaution purposes, the grenade launchers were inserted in separate casings and kept inside a backpack,” said the 103rd witness during examination-inchief by deputy public prosecutor Jamil Aripin.
To a question by Jamil, the witness also said that he was later informed that the grenade launchers had been destroyed by the Police Bomb Disposal Unit.
The witness further said that apart from the grenade launchers, Mancha had handed over to him (the witness) several firearms that were also found at the skirmish area.
The witness was giving his testimony in the trial of 30 accused persons, including one woman and a nephew of the late self-styled Sulu sultanate III, Datu Amirbahar Hushin Kiram, KUALA LUMPUR: The High Court here yesterday dismissed an application by a lawyer to obtain information from the Election Commission (EC) on the delineation of electoral boundaries.
Judge Datuk Asmabi Mohamad made the decision after finding the application by Haris Fathillah Mohd Ibrahim premature and that the lawyer had no locus standi to do so.
Asmabi also said the delineation exercise had not even started when the application was filed.
Haris Fathillah also failed to state who were the aggrieved parties referred to in the who faced various charges of committing terrorism acts.
They were apprehended during separate operations throughout Ops Sulu (later known as Ops Daulat) at several places in Lahad Datu, Semporna, Kunak and Sandakan between February 12 and April 10, 2013.
The indictments carry the mandatory death sentence while the rest provide for an imprisonment for life and a fine, upon conviction.
The trial, held at a hall doubled as an open court at the Kepayan prisons here under tight security checks by police and prison personnel, will resume today.
