Man jailed five years for splashing hot water on wife

KOTA KINABALU: A 46-yearold jobless man was jailed five years by the Sessions Court here yesterday for dousing his teacher wife with hot water.

Jaimin Jabar, who was present in the court for trial, pleaded guilty before Judge Azreena Aziz to the charge under Section 326 of the Penal Code.

The indictment provides a jail term of up to 20 years and liable to a fine or whipping, upon conviction.

The accused initially admitted to have splashed hot water on his 43-year-old wife at a teachers’ quarters in Kota Belud at 7.30am on January 22. KUALA LUMPUR: The Pan Borneo Highway project in Sabah is now in the negotiatio­n phase with the government and other parties concerned, said Deputy Minister of Works, Datuk Rosnah Abdul Rashid Shirlin.

“The Pan Borneo Highway concession agreement in Sabah will be finalised at the latest by the end of this year and the physical constructi­on will begin next year,” she said when winding up the debate on the 11th Malaysia Plan (11MP) for her ministry in the Dewan Rakyat yesterday.

The highway with a total distance of over 727km in Sabah is expected to take six to eight years to be fully completed.

Meanwhile, the second project for the first phase of constructi­on of the Pan Borneo Highway in Sarawak is expected to start in October this year.

Rosnah said it involved the route from Telok Melano to Sematan, stretching 33 kilometres.

However, Jaimin disputed the facts of the case which was read to him, prompting the judge to reject his plea of guilt.

Deputy public prosecutor Chan Qin Yee appeared for the prosecutio­n.

In an unrelated case, a local man was jailed four months by the Magistrate’s Court for possessing a fake Malaysian Permanent Resident (MyPR) card.

Magistrate Mohd Faiz Omar imposed the sentence on Abing Aidil, 31, after he pleaded guilty to the charge under Regulation 25(1)(e) of the National Registrati­on Regulation which carries a maximum fine of RM20,000 or a prison term not exceeding three years.

The accused admitted to committing the offence at a constructi­on site along Jalan Lintas in Luyang here at 8.30pm on May 6.

Prosecutin­g officer ASP Sabrina Jinius told the court that the MyPR which was produced by the accused upon his arrest was confirmed fake by the National Registrati­on Department as it did not exist in the system.

The accused later told the police that he had paid RM110 for the fake MyPR on April 27.

Meanwhile, the same court fixed June 30 for the case management of a man who was charged with molesting a woman in a mini bus which he rode from a school at Jalan Tuaran to Menggatal.

Jafari @Jefri Zaini, 47, pleaded not guilty before the judge to a charge under Section 354 of the Penal Code which provides for a jail term of up to 10 years, along with a fine or whipping or any two, upon conviction

The accused was alleged to to have committed the offence at 12.30pm on June 5.
