Concert to raise funds for Youth-PREP Centre

-

KOTA KINABALU: A concert will be held on June 13 to raise funds for the YouthPREP Centre (YPC) so that it can continue to support and help youths.

Half of the funds raised will also be donated to the relief effort in helping survivors of the Nepal earthquake and the Ranau community in Kampung Kiau Nulu which was affected by the recent earthquake.

The Keeping The Dream Alive concert will be held in Auditorium JKKN Sabah Complex from 6pm until 9pm. It will feature the InUnity Chorale, a recognised choir group with repertoires including acapella music, timeless classics, traditional folk pieces and contemporary pop songs. Tickets are sold at RM50, RM80 and RM100.

The centre’s ability to keep moving is due in large part to the unceasing support of the benefactors and prayers from those who believe in their mission.

Ten years ago, YouthPREPLink was launched as a youth preparation programme under the Good Shepherd Welfare Centre. It was inspired by the experience of the Good Shepherd Sisters who saw the struggles of the migrating youths in the big cities.

The programme spread to all over Sabah, including Sandakan, Kota Marudu, Keningau, Ranau and many other locations, with the aim to help youths from all backgrounds to manage life in a new environment, and eventually empowered youths to be community leaders.

In March 2010, Pusat Belia Youth-PREP Alamesra was established to answer the need of the youths to have a safe place for professional assistance and support on issues which matters most to them – education, relationships, work, family, financial stability and ultimately a better future.

Fondly known as YouthPREP Centre, the centre has grown so rapidly in the last five years with a variety of programmes for rural youths, secondary school students and also campus.
