JKKK and JKDB leadership told to transform delivery of services

-

BELURAN: Rural Development Minister Datuk Radin Malleh said there is a need for the Village Development and Security Committee (JKKK) and the Urban Community Committee (JKDB) leadership to transform the delivery of their services to focus more on quality work that can generate a positive impact or outcome.

He said they should concentrate efforts towards excellent human development with emphasis on changing mindsets and attitude.

“For example, the JKKK/JKDB leadership should encourage women and youths to have at least one skill area that can be used to generate income and improve their quality of life,” he said when closing the Labuk constituency JKKK/JKDB management and administration course here yesterday.

According to him, the success of any program relating to community and the well-being of the people depends on the cooperation and participation of the people involved.

He said the credibility of the JKKK/JKDB chairpersons will continue to be enhanced once they are able to balance between work and play confidently in facing administrative problems of villages in a transparent manner and dispelling negative perception.

“I would urge the chairmen of JKKK/JKDB to schedule monthly meetings to discuss issues or proposals submitted by the people so that it can be attended to for further action to be taken.

“We hope that through this approach, many issues can be resolved by working together without resorting to outside help and this will also raise the esteem of the committees in the eyes of the villagers,” he said.

In this regard, he said the JKKK/ JKDB leadership should always remain united as a team in any circumstances when discharging its duties and responsibilities entrusted to them.

Radin said in pursuing the local development agenda, the role of the JKKK/JKDB as a leader and facilitator is important to deliver the policies and programs of the government at the village level.

According to Radin, based on the current social scenario, there are increasing cases of juvenile crime among the population in this country between the ages of 10 to 18 years.

He said it was therefore important to implement programs towards establishing a strong family institution in order to produce the next generation with high ethics and moral standards.

“Only a family imbued with love, religious knowledge and mutual respect can help to shape the children's moral to a level of excellence,”he said.

He also called on the JKKK/ JKDB leadership to take heed of environmental issues in relation to cleanliness.

According to him, a village with good hygienic practices can prevent the spread of infectious diseases brought about by mosquitoes, flies and rats.

Radin called on the committees to carry out more collaborative activities and promote good practices as it would not only enrich the village but can also strengthen the bond of unity among the people.

In terms of security, he said the JKKK/JKDB leadership must always give undivided support and assistance to the security authorities in security issues such as drug abuse, sheltering of illegal immigrants, encroachment of government land, smuggling and so on.

The event was attended Assistant Finance Minister and Labuk assemblyman Datuk Seri Panglima Michael Asang, and district officer Suhaili Riman.
