‘Orange Is the New Black’ returns to Netflix
NETFLIX subscribers need only wait two more days (until June 12) for the inmates of Lichtfield Penitentiary to make their return to the streaming service via 13 new episodes. As the wait comes to an end, we take a look at what lies ahead in the women’s lock-up, including the arrival of a new prisoner. After a rather dark second season focusing on the various alliances and conflicts among the inmates, series
creator Jenji Kohan, speaking at a Television Academy screening and panel, promised that this third season would be “a little lighter than season two,” and that the themes this time around would be faith and motherhood.
A new prisoner will also be introduced to the inmates at Lichtfield. Stella Carlin, played by Australian DJ and model Ruby Rose, will attempt to seduce both Piper (Taylor Schilling) and Alex (Laura Prepon), a love triangle that could create tension between the two friends. Mary Steenburgen has also joined the cast and according to Pablo Schreiber, who plays Mendez, aka Pornstache, she will play his mom.
“Orange Is the New Black,” the most watched original series on Netflix, revolves around Piper, a young woman sentenced to 15 months in a women’s federal prison. Her crime? Transporting a suitcase full of drug money to her former girlfriend, 10 years in the past. Piper now must trade her comfortable life among New York’s upper middle class and her fiancé, Larry, for an orange jumpsuit and a zany cast of prisoners.
