In new thriller, Andy Lau is back as executive producer
HONG KONG: Singer-actor Andy Lau is back as the executive producer for the new thriller The Bodyguard. It stars Sammo Hung, who is also the director.
Apart from producing the movie, Andy has a cameo role as a “distressed father”, with a complicated grudge against the character portrayed by Hung.
Promotional posters for the movie have just been unfurled. In one shot, it’s clear that Hung and Chen Pei-yan are sworn enemies of some sort.
In that teaser shot, Hung’s back faces the camera and and he looks depressed. In contrast, Chen is full of smiles, looking mischievous and cute.
The Bodyguard narrates the story of a retired army general (Hung) who suffers from amnesia. After returning to his home in northeast China, he befriends the neighbour’s little girl.
But her father (Andy) is involved with Russian triads. To save the little girl, Hung gets involved too as a way of absolving himself from the mistakes he had made as a grandfather.
The set of publicity stills from the movie includes one showing Hung in a room full of bodies. It would appear that his character is involved in some display of deadly martial arts.
For Andy, it’s a challenging on-screen role, responsibility of producing the movie.
Notably, Hung had polished the story to reflect the warmth of plus the
actually a grandfather figure.
Apart from Andy’s cameo appearance, the members of the cast include Zhu Yuchen, Li Qinqin, Feng Jiayi, Chen Peiyan. Also making cameo appearances are Hu Jun, Feng Shaofeng, Eddie Peng, Song Jia, Tsui Hark, Karl Maka, Yuen Biao, Yuen Qiu, Yuen Wah, Yuen Ting and Yuen Bao.
Post-production of the movie is being targeted for a China-wide release later this year.
For Andy, it’s a challenging on-screen role, plus the responsibility of actually producing the movie.
