KLANG: A four-year-old boy was grievously injured on the left wrist and had burns in a fire cracker mishap in Tanjung Sepat, Banting on Monday night.

Mohd Azman Syakir Mohd Saizi was said to be playing with his friends in Taman Mutiara when an 'A-Boom' fire cracker he was lighting blew up, seriously injuring him on the left wrist and burning his eye and chest, at 8 pm.

His mother, Rozeta Abdul Razak, 27, told reporters at the Tengku Ampuan Rahimah Hospital (HTAR) here, yesterday, she was shocked and sad at what had happened.

"I quickly went to check when I heard the explosion and screams. I saw him crying and holding his bloodied left hand. I rushed him to the hospital," said Rozeta.

Rozeta also regretted that a photo of her son had been disseminated on Facebook. A picture of Mohd Azman Syakir being treated at the hospital had become viral on Facebook since midnight on Monday.

Meanwhile, HTAR Deputy Director (Surgical) Dr Rozita Mohamed said Mohd Azman Syakir was the first case of fire cracker-related injuries at the hospital on Ramadan.

"He was sent to the Banting Hospital and referred to HTAR at 9.30 pm last night. We have given him follow up treatments including surgery on his hand.

"The victim is now stable. He had sustained severe injury on his wrist and the wrist could not be saved. He was also injured in the eye and chest," she said.

Dr Rozita also gave her assurance that she would act against the staff of HTAR if they were found to be involved in spreading the victim's photo. - Bernama
