Transparen­cy in financial report vital – Lions Club District Governor

TAWAU: It is vital for every organisati­on to be transparen­t in its financial report to gain public confidence and continued community support.

District Governor of Lions Club District 308-A2 (Sarawak, Sabah, Labuan & Brunei) Dato Betty Wong said this and urged all members of each Lions Club Internatio­nal to unite and work together in serving the community, especially during disasters.

The spirit of unity would indeed build up the image of Lions, she said.

Betty, who has served in Lions for 300 over days, felt happy that 83 Lions Clubs completed a total of 4,867 projects by May 31, 2015.

All of the 83 Lions Clubs have raised a total of RM4,531,830 for the community projects and 591,994 people have benefitted from the projects.

On July 9, 2014 during the last convention in Toronto, Lions Clubs Internatio­nal launched the Centennial Challenge Service Programs, which covered four areas such as Engaging the Youth, Protecting Our Environmen­t, Relieving the Hungry and Sharing the Vision.

During this fiscal year, 287,535 youth benefitted from 603 Engaging the Youth projects, 270,959 people benefitted from 219 Environmen­tal projects, 50,642 people benefitted from 194 Relieving the Hungry projects and 34,473 people benefitted from 182 Vision Health projects, she said.

The 83 Lions Clubs completed 1,198 projects and 643,609 people benefitted through the Centennial Service Campaign Program, she added.

In terms of the membership growth sector, the district has a total of 610 new members.

She was speaking in the second round of presentati­on of awards to the five Lions Clubs of Tawau (Lions Club of Tawau Host, Lions Club of Tawau Mandarin, Lions Club of Tawau Cosmo, Lions Club of Tawau Mega and Lions Club of Tawau Central) here on Monday night.

They also raised RM8,500 for the Sabah Earthquake Fund.

The Best of the Best Club Award went to Lions Club of Tawau Mega while the Quarter 3 Best Zone Chair Award went to Kho Sze Chuan.
