Singapore sets up fund for Sabah quake victims’ families

-

SINGAPORE: Singapore has set up a fund to help the dependents of Singaporeans and Sabahan mountain guides who died in an earthquake in Sabah on June 5.

The Ministry of Education (MOE) yesterday announced the setting up of the Sabah Earthquake Fund, and said it would handle the collection of donations for the fund that would be administered by the Temasek Foundation.

It said members of the public who were keen to contribute to the fund could donate to one or more of the several groups of beneficiaries, including the families of the late Mohammad Ghazi Mohamed (who was a teacher at Tanjong Katong Primary School (TKPS)); Loo Jian Liang Terrence Sebastian (who was a teacher at TKPS); Muhammad Daanish Amran (who was an instructor at Camp Challenge Pte Ltd assigned to TKPS); Mountain Torq trainers (or their families) and Sabahan mountain guides.

A committee comprising representatives appointed by the MOE and the Temasek Foundation will oversee the manner in which the donations received by the fund in respect of each group of beneficiaries are allocated or used in order to assist the beneficiaries in rebuilding their lives and livelihood.

Members of the public who are keen to make donations can do so from now until July 22. All cheques should be made payable to the “Sabah Earthquake Fund” and sent to the following address: Ministry of Education, 1 North Buona Vista Drive MOE Building, #09-52, Singapore 138675 (Attn: Sabah Earthquake Fund).

More information on how to make a donation can be obtained from www.moe.gov. sg/sabahearthquakefund.
