Tang Wei filming ‘Finding Mr Right’ sequel

It’s the same as before. I’m still working hard and studying the script, communicating with the director and other actors, and trying to portray my character naturally. The changes in real life will not affect my work.

MACAU: Award-winning actress Tang Wei and her co-star Wu Xiubo are in Macau to film the sequel to their hit romantic comedy Finding Mr. Right (2013).

Directing the movie is Xue Xiaolu.

Director Xue is hoping to capitalise on their good chemistry for a follow-up hit.

One scene shot for the sequel shows Tang Wei on a balcony leaning against the windows. A smartly-dressed Wu Xiubo stands at a stairway watching her. Behind them is a beautiful view of Macau.

Is there any pressure to deliver another hit?

Wu laughed and said frankly, “I just follow the director’s orders. I do whatever she asks, so there’s no pressure!” He also denied speculations that a new generation of actors is affecting his career.

He welcomes competition. Reckoned Wu: “I hope more fresh faces show up, because then I’d get cast in all the mature uncle roles!”

Now a married woman, Tang Wei was asked if her demeanour during filming has changed. She replied, “It’s the same as before. I’m still working hard and studying the script, communicating with the director and other actors, and trying to portray my character naturally. The changes in real life will not affect my work.” Dressed in a black and red ensemble, Tang Wei added that for now, she cannot reveal the plot of the movie.

In the original movie, Wen Jiajia (Tang) is the mistress of a wealthy Beijing tycoon; he’s sent her on an all-expenses-paid trip to Seattle, where she plans to give birth to their love-child away from prying eyes back at home.

Upon her arrival in the chilly Washington suburbs, she immediately begins heaping abuse on her patient driver,

Tang Wei, actress

Frank (Wu Xiubo), who takes her to a home maternity centre run by the kindly Mrs Huang (Elaine Jin). There, Jiajia wastes no time in making a nuisance of herself, barking outrageously inconsiderate orders and throwing wads of cash around to ensure that they’re enforced.

As you’d expect, Jiajia’s comeuppance arrives right on schedule, just in time for the holidays. When her lover stands her up at Christmas and later cuts off her cash flow, she must learn the hard way that money isn’t everything while facing the prospect of raising her child alone.

As predictable as the outcome may be, Xue’s patchwork script was in no hurry to get to its “Sleepless in Seattle”-inspired romantic climax.

Let’s hope the pace picks up.
