Sabah dancers to compete in Romania World Cup 2015
KOTA KINABALU: An ethnic dance group from Sabah Tobilung United Association (TOBISA) has made it to the Dance World Cup 2015 World Finals which will be held at Bucharest, Romania from June 27 to July 4 this year.
The dance group, led by TOBISA president Muji Ampau, will be participating in 19 categories during the eight days of dance competition.
Science, Technology and Innovation Minister Datuk Dr Ewon Ebin, who hosted the group, said the participation of TOBISA in a world-class dance competition is an achievement to the association.
“TOBISA is a small association, but it does not mean our spirit is small. I believe the other participants in this competition will be feeling the heat because I have personally seen their performance.
“The dance, which was performed by the Tobilung teenagers, were interesting and unique, and it will be something new to the eyes of the world,” said Ewon, who is also the president of United Sabah Dusun Association (USDA).
USDA honorary secretary Bobby Lewat, USDA supreme council member Gloria Ewon and TOBISA vice president Alex Sundan will be also accompanying the group.
Earlier, Muji briefed Ewon that a total of 13 dancers would be travelling to Romania on June 23. He also appreciated the contribution made by Ewon for getting financial support from the federal government.
“We almost gave up this competition because of financial constraints, but Ewon has given his promise to help. It is going to be a huge challenge to the dancers because we will be competing with 33 countries.
“I personally see this competition and TOBISA participation is an honour to the association to carry the Jalur Gemilang at the world stage,” said Muji.
Also present at the event were Assistant Youth and Sports Minister Datuk Masiung Banah and USDA deputy president Datuk Kalakau Untol.
