UMS-KAL students carry out community service at Telipok school
LABUAN: Twenty students of Universiti Malaysia Sabah, Labuan International Campus (UMS-KAL) carried out a community service programme at SK Tampulan, Telipok recently.
UMS-KAL assistant registrar for student affairs, Mas Adi Alimin, said the programme was meant to enhance the students’ ability in communicating with the community outside the campus, while at the same time, instilling the voluntary spirit to help others, especially primary school students.
“In this programme, UMSKAL made contributions of items which included stationery, bags, school uniforms and cash to the primary school students. UMSKAL’s students also assisted in painting the classrooms and putting up some drawings and decorations in them.
“The programme saw UMSKAL students conducting group training activity with the primary school students and helping to improve their talents with several interesting games,” he said, adding that some 80 primary students, including 16 teachers and staff of the school ,were involved in the programme.
Programme director Tan Chew Nann thanked the campus management for their commitment in helping them bring the programme to realization.
“We feel excited at being able to serve the students of SK Tampulan and we hoped that we had done something to help them improve their academic performance.
I believe this programme has given us some insights, especially for the students from Peninsula, making their firsttime visit to Sabah about the daily life activities of the people in the state,”he said and thanked the school management for their hospitality, and hoped the ties between the school and UMSKAL would prosper in the long term.
Also present during the programme were the school headmaster, Paulus Duasa, and its Parent Teacher Association chairman, Martin Petrus.
