Labuan Hospital ready to meet rising public expectations
LABUAN: Health services and facilities at the Nucleus Labuan Hospital was upgraded to meet the rising expectations of the public.
More specialists with eight important specialisation fields have been stationed over the past three years.
Health director Dr Ismail Ali said the fields are general treatment, general surgery, anaesthetics, orthopedics, pediatrics, radiology, obstetrics and gynecology, trauma and emergency.
He said the Ministry of Health (MOH) was also considering stationing two specialists in obstetrics and gynecology.
“Currently we depend on two visiting specialists for the two fields, and the MOH is still considering having two specialists in the two fields here,” he said.
Dr Ismail said the MOH has also appointed an ophthalmologist from Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Kota Kinabalu to provide eye care related services at the Labuan Hospital.
“We are also in the midst of establishing rehabilitation specialist treatment services from visiting specialists, similar to services of skin specialists and psychiatry,” he said.
Dr Ismail added the hospital also has 21 haemodialysis machines with 82 patients receiving treatment.
“We are planning to add another two more machines for the growing number of dialysis patients,” he said. To better serve the patient, he said the hospital is also equipped with CT Scan facilities at its Radiology and Echocardiogram Unit and ultrasound facilities at the obstetrics and gynecology units.
“We have also applied to add facilities like mammogram, new ultrasound machine and fluoroscopy,” he added.
