SUDC win SEDCO Golf Challenge

KOTA KINABALU: Sabah Urban Developmen­t Corporatio­n (SUDC) were crowned the champions of the SEDCO Golf Challenge which ended at the Dalit Bay Golf and Country Club (DBGCC) in Tuaran recently.

Based on the top three scores using the System 36 Stableford format, the SUDC, comprising Anthony Dumpangol, Andrew Thien and Ali Hassan Ag Salleh accumulate­d 103 points to win the closed category title, thus lifting the SEDCO Challenge Trophy.

The victory did not come easy as SUDC needed to go through the countback before they were officially declared the winners with defending champions Sabah Economic Developmen­t Corporatio­n (SEDCO) A and last year’s runners-up Hyatt Regency Kinabalu also scoring similar points.

After countback, SEDCO A, consisting of Datuk Haji Hashim Paijan, Jani Haji Isa, Ir. Rajesh Yusof and Adrian Alang finished second while Hyatt Regency Kinabalu, combining Bidin Bumbong, Ariffin Darmawan, Paul Lajumin and Tunku Farazil finished third.

For the open category, the Old Boys of Sabah College Associatio­n (OSCA), featuring Hamza Maidin, Nizam Tinggal, Tony Jong and Nordin Jaafar came out on top after countback and edged the Braggers into second place.

The Braggers comprising Haji Mohd Ali DSP Mohd Bledram, Ojan Julah, Wan Jawie and Valerian Hansen Petrus also concluded the tournament with 110 points.

Fantastic 4 settled for third place after the team of Datuk Mohd Basri Abd Gafar, Radin Yusof, Donnie Intung and Mordiana Abdullah finished with 109 points.

In the individual competitio­n, the gross open category title went to Ojan after carding seven-over 79 while Jong placed second after winning on countback against third place Rokia Daud, who both played an identical 81.

Joidin Jahim was the winner of the gross closed category at 86 points followed by Thien (88) and Sumardi Yusof (93) in second and third respective­ly.

The open competitio­n for Nett event saw Yusof Haji Latip finishing at the top of the table, although he needed the countback to beat Radin Yusuf after both settled for 38 points.

The third to fifth place winners were Hamza, Mohamad Dahlan and Nizam after countback. All three collected 37 points.

As for the closed competitio­n for the same event, Bidin Bumbong won on countback against Haji Hashim after the top two were tied at 36 points at the end of the game.

Mordiana placed third, also on countback after fourth place Yunus Sadi matched his 35 points. Fifth place went to Anthony with 34 points.

Also present was SEDCO Group general manager cum group Sports and Social Club patron Haji Pengiran Saifuddin Pg Tahir and organising chairman Anthony.

Anthony, when delivering his speech, thanked everyone at the event, including sponsors, volunteers and participan­ts who had contribute­d to the success of the tournament.

Organised by SEDCO, the 13th edition of the challenge also offered RM75,000 cash prize courtesy of Cement Industries (Sabah) Sdn Bhd (RM50,000) and IIB Insurance Brokers Bhd (RM25,000) as hole-in-one prizes but there was no lucky winner.
