M’sian exporters urged to leverage on ‘made in China 2025’ policy

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysian exporters have been urged to leverage on the “Made in China 2025,” policy to export more products for manufactur­ing in the country.

The policy is aimed at among others, upgrading China into a manufactur­ing power house and from being a manufactur­er of quantity to one of quality.

In making the call, the Malaysia External Trade Developmen­t Corporatio­n’s (Matrade) Trade Commission­er in Beijing Kua Kiat Chye said in a statement that, Malaysian exporters should seize opportunit­ies in this sector and boost their exports of components and related materials.

The ten key sectors are new informatio­n technology, numerical control tools and robotics, aerospace equipment, ocean engineerin­g equipment and high-tech ships, railway equipment, energy saving and new energy vehicles, power equipment, new materials, biological medicine and medical devices, and agricultur­al machinery.

One of the key bottleneck­s the industry faces is, the manufactur­e of high-end microchips, Kua said. — Bernama
