Native Court Tenom launches its Ranau Relief Fund

TENOM: The customs and religious beliefs of the multiracia­l society of this state should be respected and maintained as a legacy for future generation­s, said Tenom member of parliament, Datuk Raime Unggi.

In this modern era, he said, the customs should be preserved and maintained in order to become a symbol of heritage and culture of every race.

“Through the State Native Affairs Council, village heads, JKKK chairmen, community leaders and the Chinese community leaders, everyone must play their role in maintainin­g the customs of every race,” he said, when launching the Ranau Relief Fund organized by the Native Court at the district office here, yesterday.

He said everyone have their respective religious beliefs but customs need to be preserved, protected and respected.

According to him, the earthquake that occurred in this state should be taken seriously and should serve as a lesson for the people to ensure that they are respectful of the customs and taboos of any race in this state.

“Indigenous customs is a heritage that we all need to maintain and respect because it can unite the people of various races in the state,” he said.

Raime said the sincere donations show the concern of the people of various races and religions in this state in coming together to help people in Ranau who became victims of the devastatin­g earthquake on June 5.

“We appreciate the assistance provided by all parties when the floods struck our area, therefore mutual help is very necessary to help anyone in need.

“All the people in the state, especially in Ranau area, must be vigilant and alert to face any possible consequenc­e s of the earthquake aftershock­s,” he said.

Also present were the district officer, Madiyem Layapan, district chief, OKK David Jani, village heads and Chinese community leaders in this district.
