Educators honoured at Teachers Day celebration
LAHAD DATU: Forty-seven educators received award for their excellent performance over the years while two teachers, Ahmad Bakhari Budin and Abd Samad Matusin, were named Tokoh Guru 2015 during the district Teachers Day celebration here.
Seow Hing Tsin was named the Headmaster of the Year and Jeffrey Bin Abdul Ahmad named the Principal of the Year.
At the event, teachers were urged to be more creative and innovative in the development of knowledge in order to develop human potential among students through absorption of spiritual and curriculum elements.
State Education Department Director Datuk Jame Alip, in his speech presented by head of Academic Management Sector, Datuk Dr Mohd Kassim B. Ibrahim, said teachers play an important role in forming noble individuals with outstanding character.
“Teachers are agents for the realization of the government’s intention to produce students who have knowledge, speaking skills, leadership skills, bilingual skills, ethics and spirituality, and national identity.
“Therefore, teachers should empower themselves with knowledge and experience, provide diversity of stimulation to optimize student potential as well as provide comprehensive individual development plans and integration to produce worldclass human capital,” he said.
Jame also congratulated award recipients and hoped the success will be an example, inspiring and motivating other fellow educators.
Meanwhile, District Education Officer Umin Sadi said the event this year was coordinated by Lahad Datu PIBK Collaborative Council led by Mahil Kamarudin who is the chairman of Parent-Teacher Association of SK Pekan 2 with the district Education Office.
Various activities such as aerobics, dinner, carnival and others were held during the celebration which aims to celebrate educators as well as encourage them to continue to produce excellent human capital.
