WWF praises govt for making most progress in HoB initiative

KOTA KINABALU: WWFMalaysi­a chief executive officer Datuk Dr Dionysius Sharma has praised the state government for making the most progress in its part of the Heart of Borneo (HoB) initiative.

Speaking to reporters after the launching of the Internatio­nal Conference on Bridging Heart of Borneo (HoB) Landscapes and Beyond through Healthy Watershed Corridors by Chief Minister Datuk Seri Musa Aman here yesterday, Dr Dionysius said Sabah was actually progressiv­ely improving over time.

“Today many years forward, Sabah, in comparison to the other parts of Heart of Borneo, is the most progress part of the initiative. (This is) in terms of what the state is doing, how it is investing in change and learning from past mistakes.

“We are very grateful to be given a chance to work with Datuk Sam and his team and the state government under the leadership of the Chief Minister and we will continue to support the state in her efforts in any what way we can,” he said.

He said these were really exciting times because new technologi­es would allow WWF to get new informatio­n which it was never be able to do in the past.

Meanwhile, secretary general of the Roundtable Sustainabl­e Palm Oil (RSPO), Datuk Darrel Webber, welcomed the Chief Minister’s announceme­nt on the introducti­on of the Certified Sustainabl­e Palm Oil (CSPO) jurisdicti­onal approach in addressing sustainabl­e practices in the oil palm sector.

“We thank Datuk Sam for being a champion in pushing the CSPO through but also the Chief Minister for his leadership and foresight to actually make that announceme­nt today which is to have only certified sustainabl­e palm oil to come out from Sabah by 2025,” he said.
