SIA CEO’s art piece used for China stamps
KOTA KINABALU: The art piece of Professor Datuk Wilson Yong Tung Yung was selected for the China Post official stamp collection, making him the first overseas Chinese artist in the world to achieve the feat which has also entered into the Malaysia Book of Records.
Resource Development and Information Technology Minister Datuk Siringan Gubat congratulated Yong for his achievement when he received a courtesy call from him at his ministry in Wisma Bandaraya here.
He believes it is not easy for a foreign artist to achieve such high recognition in China.
“We in the State are very proud with Yong’s achievement. I believe it would motivate our artists, particularly the young ones, to go and promote their masterpieces for recognition outside our country,” he said.
The minister also believed that the advancement of information and communication technologies (ICT) nowadays it would make it easier for any artist to go beyond their horizon.
During this digital era, he said there are many ICT gadgets and applications which an artist can use to promote and market their artworks across the globe faster and easier, just by the clicks of our fingers.
Yong, who is the chief executive officer of Sabah Institute of Art (SIA), was accompanied by Senator Datuk Lucas Umbul, MCA Penampang Division Youth chief Stephen Kong, SIA Media Strategy and Production director James Lim.
He also handed over a limited edition of stamp collection of his art piece which was recorded into the China Post stamp collection to Siringan as souvenir.
