-

KOTA KINABALU: Eventfinders Kota Kinabalu is organizing a 17-kilometer run, the Kokol Hill Challenge on November 29.

Runners and outdoor enthusiasts are invited participate in four categories, namely Men’s Open, Women’s Open, Men’s Veteran and Women’s Veteran for a top prize of RM1,000 cash for each category. Cash prizes will also be given to winners finishing second to fifth places for all categories and all participants will also stand a chance to win mystery lucky draw prizes.

The run, organized for the first time time this year and planned to be held for three years, is expected to draw at least 450 runners from in and outside Sabah.

“The Kokol Hill Challenge is not just another run, it is unique because it involves the local community. Our liaison for the event is actively looking for volunteers from the nearby villages of Kokol, Tegung and Sinompuru,” said Eventfinders director Susan Sahira.

She said traditional musical instruments would also be played during the event and donation presented to Sekolah Rendah Kokol and Kokol Church as part of the organizer’s community service.

Political Secretary of Finance Minister, Md Joh Wid, who is also the event organizing chairman, said the run was aimed at not only promoting a healthy lifestyle but also introducing the many unique attractions found in Kokol Hill.

“The event will benefit the villages in the area. They have tourism products that can be developed. Other than that, the organizing of the run is timely, especially as this year’s climbathon has been cancelled following the closure of Mount Kinabalu,” he said.

The event is supported by the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Environment, Sabah Toursim Board and Kota Kinabalu City Hall.

For registartion or information on the run, interested parties can reach the organizer at 019-8812236 (Susan Shahira) or 013-8860080 (Auther).
