KOTA KINABALU: The career talk on the opportunit­ies offered in the science, technology and innovation fields to be conducted by Technology Park Malaysia Corporatio­n Sdn Bhd (TPM) is expected to draw overwhelmi­ng response from school students.

The TPM-conducted career talk on November 14 from 10am to 11am is held in conjunctio­n with the PSN SciFest ’15.

The four-day event from today is organized by the National Science Centre at 1Borneo Hypermall here and will be launched by Science, Technology and Innovation Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Madius Tangau.

The aptly themed career talk, “A Career in Science and Technology”, is to be delivered by TPM’s Corporate Communicat­ion and Stakeholde­r Management Senior Manager, Aniz Adura binti Abdul Majid. Students are encouraged to take the opportunit­y to attend this briefing to explore the stimulatin­g career field.

In an interview, Aniz said with the rapid social and economic developmen­t of Malaysia there is a compelling need for the nation to adopt the latest technologi­es and innovation­s to continuous­ly build and sustain her overall national growth towards attaining the developed status by the year 2020.

She said the science, technology and innovation fields offered tremendous opportunit­ies with a bright future for those wishing to pursue their careers in these fields.

“The government’s efforts in promoting the fields of science, technology and innovation are inevitable for Malaysia to fulfil her ambition of achieving not only the developed status, but also the need to build a knowledge-based economy that can help move the value chain towards being a sustainabl­e high income nation in the future.

According to TPM’s Chief Executive Officer, Dato’ Ir Mohd Azman Shahidin, our country requires more scientist and technologi­sts to push the nation into the highest of technology advancemen­t era which contribute to our economic and societal wellbeing.

“The richer and well developed nation has a higher ratio scientist. By 2020, we want to achieve a ratio of 70 scientists per 10,000 population­s,” he said.

Citing the important role of TPM as the driver of science, technology and innovation, Azman said the company had drawn researcher­s and industry from multiple growth sectors, possessing the necessary cuttingedg­e equipment and laboratori­es and providing profession­al commercial­ization support.

To encourage the interactio­n of the students to fulfil their ambitions, the TPM booth will invite them to have their compliment­ary photograph­s taken dressed in their respective career attire with their name and “playcard” in the science, technology and innovation cluster.

In addition, the students also will have an opportunit­y to win attractive prizes in a lucky draw for a career quiz focusing on the topic of science and technology.

The PSN Scifest ’15 is expected to draw a remarkably huge crowd of students, teachers and the invited guests. The participan­ts will be treated to science demonstrat­ions, technical sessions, scientific peripheral­s exhibition, latest innovation­s and science competitio­ns among schools and many other activities.

TPM has been identified as the host for the implementa­tion of capability building programs in Advanced Engineerin­g, Science and Innovation Cluster to generate high income. Along with several local universiti­es, it aims to create a network of collaborat­ion among the private sector focused on research to transform advanced engineerin­g and IT sectors, serving as an enabler for high-growth sectors and to drive innovation.

Technology Park Malaysia Corporatio­n Malaysia Sdn Bhd is Malaysia’s pioneer and leading technology park, spanning across 688 acres of land. Since its inception in 1996, it has focused on ICT, advanced engineerin­g, herbal biotechnol­ogy, and Innovation Incubation Centre services.
