Radin welcomes freeze on foreign worker recruitment
TENOM: The Federal government’s decision to postpone the recruitment of foreign workers, including Bangladeshis into the country, is the right decision to protect the interests of local people.
Rural Development Minister Datuk Radin Malleh said this yesterday when officiating at the distribution of 1 Malaysia People Aid (BR1M) at Datuk Seri Panglima Antenom hall here yesterday.
He said this showed the government’s openness to feedback from the people and its concern for their interests.
“The people should not be inf luenced by various incorrect information disseminated by those wishing to take advantage of this issue (recruitment of foreign workers) to affect the image and credibility of the government,” he said.
He said the state government had also rejected the proposed placement of Bangladeshi workers in Sabah.
According to him, the issue of migrant workers was not only experienced by Malaysia but also by other developing countries.
In this case, he said, the local people, especially the youth must also be positive and diligent and take up various job opportunities available in the job market in the country.
A total of 1,405 residents of this Tenom and Kemabong sub-district received BR1M that was distributed by the District Off ice in collaboration with Bank Simpanan Nasional (BSN).
Radin, who is also the Melalap Assemblyman, said although the amount of aid might be considered low by some people, it had helped reduce the burden of people of various races with low income.
“I hope they will spend the BR1M money they received wisely particularly when purchasing goods.
“We can see that despite the uncertain global economic situation lately, as a credible, responsible and sensitive government to the concerns and problems of the people, various schemes including the distribution of BR1M aid were given out to those who qualif ied for such aid,” he said.
Radin also advised the recipients to be careful when dealing with certain individuals who might take advantage of the opportunity just to get the BR1M money from them. Radin, who is also PBS vice president, said the programme would also prove that people with low-income in the country would get attention from the government.
“The government has always appreciated the support of low-income people who also play a role in the development of the country especially in Sabah,” he said.
He said the people’s support would allow the government to continue various programmes for the prosperity of the people and progress of the state.
Also present at the ceremony were Tenom District Officer Madiyem Layapan, BSN Interior Zone Manager James Alexius, Kemabong Assistant District Officer Jasli Tindi and community leaders.
