Dompok's appointment a catalyst to Upko

PUTRAJAYA: The appointment of Upko honorary president Tan Sri Bernard Dompok as Malaysia's first resident ambassador to the Holy See is a catalyst to the party and its present leadership resolve to continue fighting for the Pasokmomogun communities.

Upko acting president Datuk Seri Panglima Madius Tangau said it reflected the government's recognition to Dompok's immense contribution during his tenure as a top leader in the State as well as his years of services as a Federal minister.

According to him, the former Upko supremo never failed to stand up against issues concerning the Pasokmomogun, including religion.

Madius who is Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation, said Upko and its 130,000 members are proud that the prominent leader was given the honour to represent Malaysia in Vatican City.

“Due to his outstanding contribution there is no doubt in our mind that he is the most suitable candidate.

“That was why, after the 2013 general elections, the top leaderships of Upko were unanimous in the quest to propose his name for the seat. We in Upko wish him well and all the best in this new chapter of his life.

“We are proud of you, Tan Sri. And to top it all, you choose to wear our traditional costume when receiving your appointment from the King. Thank you sir,” said Madius.

Dompok, 67, a former Sabah Chief Minister, received his credentials from the Yang diPertuan Agong Tuanku Abdul Halim Mu'adzam Shah at the Istana Negara on Thursday.

He had also been appointed as ambassador to Malta in central Mediterranean and Albania in the Balkans.
