Foster, Clooney, Roberts thriller ‘Money Monster’ set for Cannes

-

THE JULIA Roberts and George Clooney thriller, “Money Monster,” directed by Jodie Foster, is to be shown at the 2016 Cannes International Film Festival in May.

Clooney plays Lee Gates, the host of a talk show specialising in stock market matters, and Roberts is his producer, Patty Fenn.

After one of Gates’ recommended purchases turns out to be a disastrous buy, the pair are captured and held hostage by a furious viewer, Kyle (Jack O’Connell, “Unbroken.”) But the tables are turned once again when Gates vows to help Kyle find out why the stock tanked so unexpectedly and threatens to unravel a financial conspiracy.

“Money Matters” is to be shown at Cannes, The Hollywood Reporter revealed, meaning that not only would it be one of the first titles on the prestigious festival’s unannounced slate, but also the first time that Julia Roberts will attend in support of a film.

Foster has increased her activity as a director of late, receiving Directors Guild of America award nominations for her work on TV shows “House of Cards” and “Orange Is the New Black” in 2014, and co-starring alongside Mel Gibson, Anton Yelchin, Jennifer Lawrence and others in 2011’s self-directed “The Beaver.”
