Police probe dog dragged by vehicle

The police in Lahad Datu have received a report about a dog being dragged on the road while tied to a moving pick-up truck, and are investigat­ing to identify the perpetrato­r.

LAHAD DATU: The police here have received a report about a dog being allegedly dragged on the road while tied to a pick-up truck.

District police chief ACP Hamzah Ahmad said the report was lodged by the president of the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animal (SPCA) on Wednesday.

The SPCA president in his report said he had been informed that a picl-up truck driver had been seen dragging a dog behind his vehicle.

It was believed that the driver of the vehicle had been notified about the dog at the rear of his vehicle.

“We have launched an investigat­ion and this case will be referred to the Veterinary Services Department for further action,” he added.

On Wednesday, netizens were angered upon seeing a photo, uploaded by social media users, of a 4WD vehicle dragging a dog.

A driver who was behind the vehicle at that time had snapped the picture and posted it on Facebook.

The user and her husband were on their way back to Lahad Datu when the vehicle overtook them.

“Wesawthedo­g, which was already dead at that time, tied behind and dragged the whole way,” the woman said, adding the driver was driving like a maniac, trying to overtake everyone in front of him.
