‘Descendant­s of the Sun’ sets new record

SEOUL :‘ Descendant­s of the Sun’ continues its soaring popularity with the latest episode setting a new viewership record on Thursday.

The 12 th episode reached 33 per cent viewership nationwide, and 36.6 per cent in Seoul, setting a new high for the drama.

In the recent episode, special forces captain Yoo Si-jin, played by Song Joong-ki, successful­ly rescues his girlfriend Kang Mo-yeon, played by Song Hyekyo, who was earlier abducted by Agus, a soldier-turnedgang­ster.

Near the end of the episode, Kang, returns home to Korea as her medical volunteeri­ng stint in Uruk — a fictional Mediterran­ean country — has ended. She bids farewell to Yoo, who is required to stay in Uruk.

In the teaser for the next episode, the two meet again in Seoul and continue their romance.

On the other hand, the drama’s other couple, made up of Seo Dae-young and Yoon Myungjoo, played by Jin Goo and Kim Ji-won, respective­ly, go through a rough patch in their relationsh­ip.

‘Descendant­s of the Sun’ has just four episodes left. It airs every Wednesday and Thursday at 10pm.

Meanwhile, actor Yoo Ah-in will star in the 13th episode, according to local media outlets.

Insiders in the drama industry have been buzzing about Yoo‘s upcoming appearance, scheduled to hit airwaves Wednesday.

“He will take the role of a straightfo­rward, intelligen­t banker.

The character is a man of principle, and we are expecting Yoo to leave quite a mark on the drama.”

With Yoo joining the already star-studded cast, the show may reach a whole new level of pop cultural ubiquity.
