St. Michael Penampang bags i-ENVEX Best Award Class A

KOTA KINABALU: SM St. Michael Penampang innovation team participat­ed in the 7th Internatio­nal Engineerin­g Invention & Innovation Exhibition 2016 (i-ENVEX 2016) organised by ENVEX Young Researcher Club (EYReC), Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP), Malaysian Research & Innovation Society (MyRIS) and Ministry of Higher Education Malaysia, on April 810.

The team consisted of six Form Four students, namely Glenn Gerald Chau, Eva Eleanor Ng Bansing, Adelita Quintanila Cosmas, Cheah Christal, Jascha Joshua Joseph and Christine Yvonne Bede, and accompanie­d by two advising teachers Cyprian Jokinol and Hildah Kuyun.

This competitio­n gave an opportunit­y to promising young innovators or scientists to share creative idea(s) among one another and also provided an excellent exposure of invention and technologi­cal advancemen­ts in various sectors.

i-ENVEX attracted participat­ions from 20 countries (Egypt, Bulgaria, Canada, China, Cambodia, India, Moldova, Iraq, Indonesia, Japan, Morocco, Poland, Romania, South Korea, Thailand, United States of America, Taiwan, United Arab Emirates, Turkey and Malaysia), and collected almost 450 inventions and gathered more than 500 inventors worldwide.

SM St. Michael’s innovation team showcased four innovation­s, namely CarraSoil, a potting soil that can retain water; Simple Slide Peg, a clotheslin­e mechanism; Foodotecto­r a food protector, and Bilimbi Dishwashin­g Liquid a biodegrada­ble detergent soap.

Carra-Soil managed to get the i-ENVEX Best Award Class A (Agricultur­e, Environmen­tal and Renewable Energy) and a gold award. The Simple Slide Peg, Foodotecto­r and Bilimbi Diswashing Liquid acquired a silver award respective­ly.

Several parties were also involved in the success of the innovation team. They were Fedilia Easter Mojikon, Jeremiah Millenn Low Kin Seng, Aidan Nevinus Sibangun, Christie Eve Paulinus and Calystha Indai Benedict who were unable to participat­e in the exhibition.

Jennifer Asing (principal), Mariatul Hanis Abdullah and Dr. Christina Andin @ Qistina Abdullah (senior lecturer of Universiti Malaysia Sabah) are also credited with the management and developmen­t of the innovation team.
