Woman fined RM11,000 over ketamine

KOTA KINABALU: A 24-yearold woman was yesterday slapped with a RM11,000 fine, in default 12 months’ jail by the Magistrate’s Court here on a count of possessing 20.50 grammes of ketamine.

Chai Vun Yei was ordered to pay the fine by magistrate Cindy Mc Juce Balitus, after she pleaded guilty to the charge under Section 12(2)/12(3) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.

The accused admitted to having the substance at Vista Minintod Apartment in Penampang on January 26 this year, when she was caught by police at around 1.20am.

Upon conviction, the indictment carries RM100,000 fine or a jail term which may extend to five years, or both.

Meanwhile, the magistrate imposed RM2,000 fine, in default six months’ jail on one Faisal Rudie, who admitted to having 0.06 grammes of syabu in his possession in an unnumbered house in Kampung Kobusak, Penampang on March 14 this year around 11.40am.

The offence was also framed under Section 12(2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act (DDA).

On top of that, the court also ordered Faisal to pay another RM1,500, in default five months’ jail, for consuming syabu.

Faisal faces up to RM5,000 fine or a maximum jail of two years if convicted under Section 15(1)(a) of the Act.

Separately, two others were also fined by the same court for committing a similar offence under Section 15(1) (a) of the DDA.

They were Dino Guroh Nico and Zulfadli Fung, who were fined RM1,500 and RM2,000, in default five motns’ jail subjected to two years’ police supervisio­n respective­ly, after they admitted to committing the offence between January 16 and March 5 this year.
