-

TAWAU: The United Malay National Organisation (Umno) is always ready to work with various agencies in helping the 1,217 fire victims including 63 non-citizens who were made homeless in a fire incident at Jalan Habib Abd Rahman Kongsi 10 Kg Titingan, on April 13.

Its welfare bureau chairman Dato’ Shamsul Anuar Nasarah said he would hold a discussion with the State Minister of Youth and Sports Datuk Tawfiq Titingan to discuss about the necessary equipment needed, particularly among the schooling children there.

He said it was important to ensure that all the children (fire victims) went to school appropriately.

Shamsul, who is also a member of the Lenggong parliamentary, said the government, through various welfare agencies, had also assisted the fire victims in terms of their daily necessities.

He added that the government had also taken the initiative to set up temporary camps for these fire victims.

He told the media this when visiting the site and distributing daily necessities to the fire victims at Jalan Habib Abd Rahman Mosque, Batu 2, Jalan Apas here, yesterday afternoon.

“I sympathise with the fire victims and hope the community, including the elected representatives, could lend their hands to them from time to time,” he added.

Meanwhile, Life Water Industries Sdn Bhd contributed 100 boxes of drinking water to the victims, which were distributed by DHN (K.K) Sdn Bhd.

According to an updated statistics yesterday, a total of 252 households involving 183 houses had registered themselves with the Tawau welfare department. Thirty-seven among the victims were senior citizens, a pregnant woman, and three disabled persons.
