College aims to turn music teachers into entrepreneurs

- By Shalina R.

KOTA KINABALU: The Malaysia Music Teachers Training College (MMTC) will adopt the world’s first revolutionary smart piano system to turn piano music teachers into future music entrepreneurs in Sabah.

MMTC CEO and founder Peter Chua said the college was looking to become East Malaysia as well as Brunei’s first and sole distributor of Beijing’s ‘The ONE’ brand, which would consist of a complete piano teaching system using its core product The ONE Smart Piano.

The combination of low cost innovative teaching method and the world’s first interactive piano will turn normal music lessons into a fun and creative future piano class for early-age music classes.

“The development for love of music actually starts as a child before understanding music comes with maturity,” said Chua at the first The ONE Revolutionary Piano Class briefing at MMTC in Likas here yesterday.

“Our society, our music schools, our music learning here is very robotic and most of the teachers lack the creative approach of teaching young kids. This will help to accelerate the learning of music in a creative way.

“Everyone can be a good entrepreneur, not just music teacher but also be an entrepreneur. It is so easy to run and fun learning, especially for early age music class. You become a very good entrepreneur with a systematic guided education program,” added Chua.

Chua explained that the program was not stripping away the traditional methods but would create an interesting learning platform to hold the attention of children using a fun, easy and interactive way so they could develop maturity in interest and skills.

“As they slowly reach to the age of 12 they would want something better and they will be ready for it, so there is actually a big market for this,” he said.

Chua announced, upon sealing the sole distributor agreement, that MMTC was committed to set up, at least three to six teacher training centres where teachers would go through a six-month course on becoming music entrepreneurs.

He added that MMTC was also looking at incorporating The ONE program as part of its syllabus and into its skills based training centre once the college attained the Malaysian Skills Certificate (SKM)

Furthermore, Chua said MMTC was also aggressively pursuing a UK accredited diploma.

“We are actually revolutionizing the teaching industry because at the moment, most are not entrepreneurial,” emphasized Chua, adding that the program would also be incorporated into newly launched MMTC Entrepreneur Business Model.

“We actually put entrepreneurship into the system so that the parent, the society sees there is a huge potential to become a good music teacher because entrepreneurship opportunities is available there,” he explained.

The program is also credited as the fun and futuristic piano learning way by world renowned classical pianist turned The ONE ambassador Lang Lang.

Only one tutor is required to carry out the class, and lessons revolve around interesting fames and stories, which promote interactive and fun group learning for children.

The ONE Smart Piano, the first Apple MFi certified piano in the world, will not only connect users to the free IOS app but also the Android app that will give full access to learning materials on the iPad, iPhone and Android devices.

Meanwhile the system, amongst others, will ensure consistency in teaching and presentation as well as records and allows progressive feedback to be easily sent to parents.
