KOTA KINABALU: JCI Tanjung Aru continues the ‘Red Saver’ Flagship Project under the community portfolio for the second year this year.

Red Saver’s upcoming blood donation drive will be held at Imago Shopping Mall, Basement Floor (in front of Everrise Supermarke­t), on the April 24 (Saturday) from 10am to 5pm.

There will be exciting lucky draw session for successful donors during the event.

This year, the objectives of Red Saver are two-pronged: To build public awareness on the need of regular blood donations and to support Kota Kinabalu blood bank to obtain of 1,000 pints of blood for this year.

This was disclosed by Sebastian Ong, the organising chairman of Red Saver.

“Last year, we successful­ly organized four blood donation drives.

"In order to achieve our objectives, we will continue to strive to achieve a total of 1,000 pints of blood which started from last year in order to contribute and fulfill the needs of blood bank.

“My first blood donation experience­d was in 2008 under the encouragem­ent of my family members. I am a consistent blood donor and this will be my 15th time to donate blood.

“I am honoured to be the organising chairman of JCI Tanjung Aru Red Saver, and I would like to encourage more people to join this cause to be a blood donor.

“One pint of blood can save up to three lives. Donating blood will not only save lives, but also benefits the blood donors such as increase the rate of metabolism, improves health condition and etc. It is time to roll up your sleeve to save a life – including yours,” Ong said.

Meanwhile, JCI Tanjung Aru vice president Jennee Chang hoped that this project would encourage the community to be active citizens to create positive change, in line with JCI Mission & Vision, where “giving blood is a gift of life - you can keep on giving”.

She also said “Donors are encouraged to eat a meal prior to giving blood and drink plenty of water and the minimum blood donation requiremen­t includes a minimum weight of 45kg and minimum age of 17”.
