Guan Eng flies to Kuching today to test entry
GEORGE TOWN: DAP secretarygeneral Lim Guan Eng has urged the Sarawak state government to allow the party’s members of parliament, assemblymen and leaders to enter the state.
Lim said he had written a letter on the matter to Sarawak Chief Minister, Tan Sri Adenan Satem but has so far not received any response from the state government.
He claimed the state government’s move to ban certain individuals from entering the state was an abuse of power.
“I wish to stress that the DAP supports Sarawak’s leadership move in preventing anyone undesirable from entering the state but not when it applies only to the opposition leaders and not leaders from the Barisan Nasional,” he said at a press conference yesterday.
On Thursday, Malay nongovernmental organisations coalition chairman Datuk Jamal Md Yunus who is also Sungai Besar Umno division chief, along with three other individuals were stopped from entering the state upon arrival at Kuching International Airport immigration counter at 11.30am.
Gerakan Memartabatkan Pejuang Negara president, Major (Rtd) Razali Zakaria, Eratkan Perhubungan Antara Negeri Cetuskan Organisasi (EPANCO) president, Ariffin Abu Bakar and Klang Malay Welfare Association president, Rahim Ibrahim were also prohibited from entering.
Lim said he and Penang DAP chairman who is also a state executive council member, Chow Kon Yeow, would be leaving for Kuching today.
“We will just wait and see if we will be allowed in or not,” he said.
On the Taman Manggis land issue debate scheduled on April 19, Lim who is also Penang chief minister said TV3 had contacted DAP organising secretary, Anthony Loke Siew Fook on the matter on Thursday.
He said the party was still awaiting confirmation from Urban Wellbeing, Housing and Local Government Minister, Datuk Abdul Rahman Dahlan.
“The details of the debate will be announced by Anthony Loke. I hope Rahman Dahlan will confirm his attendance and not cancel it at the last minute,” he added. - Bernama
