KDMM FC home matches now on Saturdays

-

KOTA KINABALU: Home matches for Sabah KDMM FC will be played on Saturdays when the second round of the FAM Cup League Group B begins in the middle of May.

Club president Datuk Peter Anthony said efforts are also underway for matches at the Keningau Stadium to be played at night.

“We (KDMM FC) have successfully brought the Malaysia League to Keningau especially for the interior communities. And after the first round of matches we received requests to change the home matches from Sundays to Saturdays.

“We have forwarded these requests to FAM and they have gracefully approved. Hopefully they will also approve our request to play our home matches at night,” Peter said when met here yesterday.

According to him, a majority of the club’s fans prefer the home matches to be played on Saturdays as they are more free to turn up for the games than on Sundays.

“Principally, FAM have agree to allow us to play matches at night but it all depends on the lighting level in the stadium... it must achieve a certain reading in order for FAM to approve.

“As it is we are making arrangements to upgrade the stadium lights and I hope it will be complete before the start of the second round. FAM will conduct an inspection before giving their approval,” Peter said.

It is understood that the current lux reading at the Keningau Stadium does not fulfil FAM’s requirements for night matches.

In this regard, Peter urged Sabah Sports Board to help resolve the matter by upgrading the floodlights before the second round begins sometime in midMay.

“It will go down as another chapter in the history books as it will be the first time M-League matches are being played at night in the interior.

“I hope SSB will give their cooperation to help us so that our plan to play matches at night can become a reality,” Peter said while thanking SSB for their earlier cooperation which enabled M-League matches to be brought to Keningau.

Round two matches for Group B are expected to begin in the middle of May after the final first round fixtures conclude tomorrow.

With a top-four finish target in mind, KDMM FC will face KL MOF FC in their final first round match at the INSPEN Stadium in Bangi.

They also face the same opponent in the opening match of the second round.

KDMM FC, coached by Andrew Majanggim, are currently sixth in the eight team standings. They are on eight points from two wins, two draws and as many defeats.
