- By Winnie Kasmir

SANDAKAN: Chief Minister Datuk Seri Musa Haji Aman said the State Government would cooperate with Indonesian Government in curbing crossborder crime especially in curbing the kidnap-for-ransom incidents involving Abu Sayyaf militants.

Commenting on the recent Indonesian crew members who were kidnapped, Musa said the kidnapping had happened in international waters.

However, the State Government is giving its assistance for the injured tugboat crew who escaped with his four other crew members.

“The injured crew is now being treated at Hospital Tawau by our competent medical team,”Musa said to reporters after officiating at the Batu Putih voting district group meeting at Batu Putih Hall, yesterday.

Musa also hoped that all tugboats and vessels would remain vigilant at all times due to the rising numbers of abduction.

Earlier, Musa who is also Libaran Umno chief officiated at the Padas and Rancangan voting district group meeting at the Kampung Padas hall, Mile 10.

Speaking to all branch chiefs present at the meeting, Musa said the loyalty among Umno members to party leaders was important to further strengthen the party.

He believed that the loyalty among members of the party was derived from commitment shown by leaders in fulfilling their obligations to people.

“In order to further strengthen Umno, party members should give their solid support and cooperation to the leadership. Be united and avoid arguments which could jeopardize the party.

“The Umno grassroots leaders must often do the walkabout, to listen and identify the people’s problem. The noble work by these grassroots leaders is the foundation of gaining the people’s support towards Umno,” he added.

Also present were Umno Libaran deputy chief Datuk Juslie Ajirol, Umno Libaran vice chief Datuk Zakaria Haji Mohd Edris, Umno Libaran Wanita chief Datuk Armani Haji Mahiruddin, Umno Libaran Puteri chief Karmi Ariffin and Sandakan Municipal Council President Datuk James Wong.
