Police still investigating motive behind drive-by shooting

KOTA KINABALU: Police are still investigating the motive behind Friday’s drive-by shooting of a businessman and a university student along Jalan Kolam, in Foh Sang, Luyang.

Sabah Crime Investigation Department (CID) chief SAC Salehhudin Abd Rahman when contacted yesterday said police were carrying out a thorough investigation to determine the motive for the shooting.

“We are still investigating as well as tracking down the suspects.

“We will inform once we have something concrete,” he said.

Hii Lam King, 36, and Ting Wen Hou, 23, both from Sibu, Sarawak were gunned down by two men on a motorcycle along Jalan Kolam, near the Petronas petrol station in Foh Sang around 7.30am on April 15.

The incident happened during early morning rush-hour just minutes after Hii had sent his child to school and was heading to the city centre with Ting and his twin brother.

Two men on a motorcycle had tailed the Toyota Land Cruiser driven by Hii before one of the suspects fired eight shots towards the driver’s side window.

The shots hit Hii and Ting, who was in the front passenger seat while Ting’s twin brother in the back seat escaped unhurt.

Both men died instantly of gunshot wounds on their head and bodies.

There have been two previous attempts made on Hii’s life between 2014 and 2015.

In October 2014, an unknown assailant opened fire at Hii’s house in Sibu, Sarawak but no one was reported injured in the incident.

The second attempt was in June 2015 when assailants attempted a drive-by shooting as Hii was travelling in a vehicle in Bandar Utama, Selangor with a Mongolian woman. Hii escaped the shooting but his companion was hit four times.
